Why We Struggle to Receive What God Has Already Prepared.
There are moments with God that begin so quietly you almost miss them.
Nothing dramatic happens. There isn't a loud revelation or an overwhelming spiritual experience. You're simply spending time with the Father, and somewhere in the middle of an ordinary moment, He gently begins uncovering something you didn't even know was there.
That's exactly what happened to me during Morning Stillness.
I wasn't trying to solve a problem. I wasn't preparing a podcast or outlining a lesson. I was simply sitting with the Lord, enjoying that quiet place I've come to treasure. Then, almost without realizing it, my mind drifted.
It drifted toward my framework.
Toward my business.
Toward whether it would truly help women.
Toward whether anyone would ever purchase it.
The thoughts came so naturally that I almost followed them. If I'm honest, I probably would have a year ago. But something has changed over these past several months. Morning Stillness has taught me not to ignore those moments because they often become invitations.
So instead of chasing the thoughts, I quietly prayed, "Father, search my heart."
I expected Him to talk to me about my business.
He didn't.
He began talking to me about my heart.
The more I sat with Him, the more I realized the anxiety I was feeling wasn't actually about my framework at all. The framework had simply become the place where something deeper was surfacing.
At first, I recognized fear.
That wasn't surprising. Fear has a way of showing up in subtle places. Sometimes it disguises itself as responsibility. Sometimes it looks like overthinking. Sometimes it sounds like wisdom when it's really just worry wearing different clothes.
But the Father didn't stop there. As I continued sitting with Him, He gently uncovered another layer.
Beneath the fear...was low self-esteem.
I remember just sitting there for a moment because that wasn't what I expected Him to reveal.
It suddenly made sense why I had been wrestling with receiving.
Not because God was withholding anything from me.
Because there was still a part of my heart that struggled to believe I could freely receive what He delighted in giving.
That realization stayed with me long after Morning Stillness ended.
I think many of us assume we're waiting on God to release something new into our lives. We pray. We ask. We wait. We wonder why nothing seems to be changing.
But what if the Father is doing something far more beautiful than we realize?
What if He's preparing us to receive what He's already prepared?
That question has been living in my heart ever since.
As I continued reflecting, the words of David came back to me differently than they ever had before.
"Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts." (Psalm 139:23)
I've read that verse many times over the years, but this time it didn't feel like a prayer asking God to expose my failures. It felt like the invitation of a loving Father who wanted to heal the places that were quietly shaping the way I responded to Him.
There's something incredibly freeing about realizing God isn't looking for reasons to disqualify us. He's looking for places to restore us.
The more I thought about it, the more I recognized that receiving has very little to do with provision and everything to do with identity.
An orphan spends her life striving to earn what she hopes someone might give her.
A daughter learns to open her hands because she already knows whose she is.
I wasn't struggling because God wasn't generous.
I was struggling because there were still places in my heart learning what it meant to live as His daughter.
And isn't that true in so many areas of our lives?
Sometimes we think we're struggling with finances when the Father is inviting us to trust Him as our Provider.
Sometimes we think we're struggling with purpose when He's reminding us that our identity comes before our assignment.
Sometimes we think we're waiting for an answered prayer when He's gently healing the heart that will eventually receive the answer.
I've come to realize that Morning Stillness isn't just a quiet way to begin my day.
It's become a sacred place where the Father lovingly uncovers what I could never discover by rushing ahead.
Sometimes He brings a Scripture to mind.
Sometimes it's a worship song.
Sometimes it's simply one question that lingers in my heart all day long.
Other times, like this morning, He reveals an identity pattern that has quietly been influencing the way I see everything.
That morning, I left with a declaration I had never prayed before.
I am no longer blocking what God is trying to get to me. I receive everything my Father desires to give me.
Those words didn't come from positive thinking.
They came from revelation.
They came from realizing I wasn't waiting on God to release something new.
He was healing my ability to receive what He had already prepared.
That has changed the way I pray.
It has changed the way I build.
It has changed the way I wait.
Most of all, it has changed the way I see my Father.
He isn't standing at a distance asking me to prove myself worthy of His goodness.
He's inviting me closer.
He's reminding me that daughters don't strive to earn what the Father freely gives.
They simply learn to receive.
Maybe that's where you find yourself today.
Maybe you've been praying for breakthrough, provision, clarity, or peace. Maybe you've quietly wondered why it feels like everyone else is moving forward while you're still waiting.
Before you assume God is withholding something, ask Him the same simple prayer that changed everything for me.
"Father, search my heart."
Then stay there.
Don't rush the conversation.
Let Him uncover what He wants you to see.
You may discover, just as I did, that the greatest miracle isn't always God changing your circumstances.
Sometimes it's Him restoring your ability to receive from Him as His beloved daughter.
❦Morning Stillness Reflection
Father, what are You revealing to me today? Give me understanding in the name of Jesus.
Stay with that question for a little while. If it begins to feel uncomfortable, ask the Holy Spirit to help you sit still to hear Him clearly.
You don't have to rush toward an answer. Simply remain with Him. Sometimes the most life-changing revelations don't arrive all at once. They unfold quietly in the presence of a Father who knows exactly what your heart needs and delights in gently leading you back to the truth of who you are.
